“The purpose of catechetical education is to inform, form and transform Christian persons and communities as apprentices to Jesus for God’s reign in the world.”   Thomas Groome

We welcome you and your family to our Faith Formation Programs for all age groups here at Corpus Christi Parish. We provide faith formation opportunities that inform, form and transform individuals to live out our Baptismal call to discipleship in Jesus Christ and carrying out the mission of the Church.  These programs are centered in living a Sacramental life with special emphasis on the Eucharist as the source of our life and commitment to live out that Baptismal call. We willingly share with you, your responsibility regarding the religious education of your children. If you have any questions, requests, problems or suggestions, please feel free to contact Nick Perkoski at 440.599.8570, by email: nperkoski@gmail.com  or stop in the Parish Office. Be assured of continued prayers for you and your family.

Faith Formation for Grades 1-8

Faith Formation for grades 1-8 meets every Sunday morning during the school year from 9:15-10:45am in the Parish Center.   Students are invited to journey in experiencing and learning the fundamental tenants of our Catholic faith.  This is accomplished through  non-traditional and family oriented classrooms that are designed to lead students to be apprentices in discipleship.  This program follows the Diocese of Youngstown Curriculum for Catechesis.

Youth Ministry: Grades 9-12

Our Youth Ministry is open to any student in grades 9-12 and meets at the YM Coffee House (youth room in the Parish Center) regularly on Sunday morning’s at 9:30am.  This program incorporates service, social, catechetical, and liturgical experiences in leading our youth in discipleship.  This program helps students not only learn about their faith but more importantly, learn how to live that faith in service and community.  Check out our latest schedule of social and service events: YMSummer2017

Adult Faith Sharing

Understanding and deepening our faith is a life-long journey and we should continually take the time to do so.  We offer opportunities for adults of any age to gather regularly to learn, discuss and share their faith in an informal atmosphere.  Currently, we have a session that meets on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00pm and on Wednesday mornings from 8:30-10:00am (after the morning Mass).  These sessions are designed for anyone to join us at any time.  No weekly commitment is necessary.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION – Children

Preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation, Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, are parish-centered programs requiring additional preparation.  Although normally associated with a particular grade level (i.e. second grade for Reconciliation and Eucharist) this may not be the case for all children.

BAPTISM:  Children who are baptized as infants enter the Religious Education Program at first grade and progress through the grades and Sacramental Preparation programs at the respective level.  Children below the age of seven may be Baptized after their parents participate in a Baptism Class.  Children above the age of seven who were not Baptized as infants and whose parents wish to raise them as Catholics enter a Children’s Catechumenate.  This is a process involving the parents and preparing children to become full members of the Church.

EUCHARIST:  Ordinarily, children begin preparation to celebrate the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in Grade One.  Children must have two years of catechetical instruction to be eligible for the sacrament.  Children beyond Grade Two are placed at their normal grade level for Faith Formation Classes but may be asked to participate in a special preparation program for the sacraments outside the regular class time.  Parents in both cases are required to attend four meetings to support and assist their children.  Children may receive the Sacraments when they have a basic understanding and readiness.

CONFIRMATION:  The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated every year in Grade 8.  Candidates must have two years of catechetical instruction to be eligible for the sacrament.  Parents, candidates, and sponsors are expected to attend a total of four meetings over a two-year period in support of the candidate through the entire preparation.  The celebration of Confirmation is usually held in the Spring.

RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Are you or someone you know interested in joining the Catholic Church? RCIA is the process by which those who interested in becoming Catholic can experience and learn about our faith.  Our RCIA program meets bi-weekly for a two-hour session.  It is informal rather than being like a class.  It is centered on discussion rather than just lectures.  It is designed to address your questions and concerns as you take the steps along the path to the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation.

All are invited to inquire about the faith.  For more information and the coming year’s schedule, please contact Nick Perkoski at 440.599.8570, by email: nperkoski@gmail.com
